Family Photo
The other day my daughter, now living in Israel for the
year, decided that a visual would help her friends understand her diverse
family back at home. “Your family sounds so cool. We can’t wait to meet them.”
I am not sure what she told them about us, but by the time we get there in the
spring, we’d better have a good show for these girls. We are a strange bunch,
to say the least. So, she artistically depicted each one of us in a line up for
her friends. Notice “THE HAT”, a true expression of my husbands chassidis. I
mean, the hat says it all. For all you animal activist (and I happen to be one
myself), he will have you know that the furry friends died a holy death to be
able to sit on his head. Then there’s moi. What can I say? I love my daughter’s
impression of my sheik, yet down to earth look. She left off my cool hat, but got my great curls and if I ever wore a sheitel, it would for sure look like that. My son is now sporting a very
cool tie, a clue to his “chassidic-gone-litvish-yesivish” look in spite of my
husbands loving remarks “You dress like a goy!” Then there’s my daughter, and…..
Her hair is looking great despite the blow out from trying to use an American
flat iron in an Israeli electrical outlet. That didn’t work too well. The twins
are donning their matching argyle vests and spider-looking tzizit…and of
course, our little dochsy, our little chipmunk chasing, warm-you-up-in-the-winter,
wiener dog… that we all fight over. Anyway, we may not match up but we create
somewhat of a “soup”. I just had to share the "portrait" as, well…. it just does us
right.
